Narrated Walk around Sir Walter Scott’s Abbotsford Estate

30th September 2023 - 30th September 2023

Join Gavin Hewitt, Chairman of the Friends of Abbotsford Committee, on a further narrated walk on Saturday 30 September around the perimeter of Sir Walter Scott’s Abbotsford estate, drawing on Scott’s letters, his Journal, his detailed notes on the development of his tree plantations and other historical facts and events.

This walk is around 6.5km (about 2½ hours) and will leave from the Abbotsford Visitor Centre at 10.30am sharp.

The walk follows The Tweed round to Lowood Bridge; from there it will take in Darnick village including Darnlee and Darnick Tower and return to Abbotsford by the Broomilees Road passing Broomilees, Coatgreen, Sunnyside and Kaeside. The route will follow tarmac paths, minor roads and rougher riverside tracks and includes some steps. Stout shoes or walking boots are recommended.
