Creative Writing Workshop: Telling and Retelling Supernatural Tales
12th November 2023 - 12th November 2023
Come along to Abbotsford for a creative writing workshop inspired by traditional supernatural tales!
Scottish writer Walter Scott was fascinated by tales of the supernatural and the ways in which folklore and supernatural stories were shared by people from different countries and cultures. This has inspired researchers at the University of Aberdeen to collect supernatural tales from the diverse communities living in Scotland today and use them for these interactive workshops to create new communities of fable through creative writing and storytelling.

Beginning with an interactive multimedia exploration of supernatural stories from Scotland and folktales from other countries and cultures, a creative writing workshop will then use these tales to help you write your own modern-day supernatural story. Scott’s fascination with the supernatural is represented by his library at Abbotsford and the new folklore trail, Witch Corner, making it an ideal setting for the retelling of supernatural tales. This creative writing event is suitable for adults of all ages. Prior writing experience is not essential.
