Abbotsford's award-winning Visitor Centre is still open, where you can discover the life and times of Sir Walter Scott with our free exhibition, indulge in some shopping for souvenirs and unique gifts or meet friends and family for morning coffee or lunch. From here you can set off to explore our popular family play trail or roam the wider estate.

Our permanent free exhibition includes books and recordings of ballads, poems, myths and legends from Scott’s own library, displayed alongside paintings, engravings, letters, manuscripts and informative information panels telling Scott’s remarkable story.

In our gift shop you can choose from a wide range of souvenirs and gifts inspired by and relating to the life and legacy of Sir Walter Scott, or select from a range of beautiful jewellery, accessories and homewares created by Borders-based craft workers and artisans.

Ochiltree’s café offers a good choice of modern Scottish cuisine, ranging from light lunch options to afternoon tea, and has a tasty festive menu throughout December.

The estate is open for you to enjoy a walk along the woodland and riverside paths, and children can have fun in the popular play park. We are delighted to welcome dogs in the cafe, gift shop and estate.

You can also get in the festive spirit at our Christmas events, including our Festive Family Fair where you can enjoy a craft fair featuring local traders, a free house tour and children's activities including storytelling sessions, arts and crafts, a festive trail and more!
