What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a government scheme that helps your support go further. If you're a UK taxpayer and opt-in to Gift Aid, The Abbotsford Trust, the independent charity that cares for the house, chapel, gardens, estate and collections created by Sir Walter Scott and his descendants, can claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated, at no extra cost to you.

That's as long as you've paid the basic rate of tax and donated from your own funds. Gift Aid can increase the value of your donations as the government gives the charity 25% extra, making your donations go further.

If more people like you add Gift Aid it will make a massive difference to enable us to support the conservation of items within our care, alongside transformational education and engagement programmes in the community.

As a UK tax payer by opting to Gift Aid your donation to The Abbotsford Trust transforms every £1 you have given in the past 4 years and in the future into £1.25, without costing you a penny more. The Abbotsford Trust can claim the tax back on all donations you have made to us for the past four years, and on any future donations you make. If you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year, it is your responsibility to pay any difference. Please note that unless you indicate otherwise the Gift Aid will support the general runningof The Abbotsford Trust.
