Adopt a Bench

Nestled in the beautiful natural environment of the Abbotsford Estate are a small number of sites for new artisan benches available for adoption to celebrate the life of a loved one or to mark a special occasion.

Each bench will display a hand-carved quote, carefully selected from the canon of Scott’s work, and friends and family will have the opportunity to pick a quote that’s meaningful to them

In Good Company

Personalised dedications will be recorded in the Book of Memories, an echo of the historic Visitor Book, which provides a glimpse of the diverse community of illustrious guests who have visited Abbotsford. New entries will continue the long tradition of the welcoming spirit of Scott and Abbotsford, commemorated alongside eminent visitors who came before, including William Wordsworth, Charlotte Brontë, and the Duke of Wellington.

Historic landscape

These special sites of tribute will be part of a landscape of national importance, allowed to sensitively weather as the surrounding wildlife and plant life flourishes, but always under the watchful eye of Abbotsford’s Gardens & Estates team.

There’s nothing more tempting than the invitation to sit quietly in nature, to press pause and to enjoy restful surroundings. We’ve selected locations that are always accessible, so that any visitors to the Abbotsford Estate can enjoy a little moment of peace and contemplation. Friends and family can visit as often as they like through the seasons, reflecting on special memories surrounded by the natural beauty of Abbotsford.

How to Adopt a Bench

We expect the Adopt a Bench scheme to be very popular, so please do get in touch with the team at fundraising@scottsabbotsford.co.uk if you’d like to make a dedication.

By adopting a bench, not only will you be preserving cherished memories, but supporting the important work of The Abbotsford Trust.
