LEARN
Welcome to Abbotsford - a fantastic resource for learners of all ages!
Visit Abbotsford and discover the life, times and obsessions of one of Scotland’s most important national figures; a writer, but so much more than that, too!
Located in the heart of the beautiful Borders countryside, Abbotsford was built by Sir Walter Scott in the 19th century as a family home, work space and private museum and his interests can be seen in the amazing gothic architecture and interiors jam-packed with fascinating curios, artefacts, books and stories galore.
Browse our programmes for schools, colleges and universities and discover how students of all ages and abilities can unlock the mysteries and secrets of Abbotsford for themselves with one of our cross-curricular sessions.
Delivered by our friendly experienced team on-site, we offer a range of educational sessions spanning subject areas from social sciences and literacy to art and design, history and the sciences. Our sessions are interdisciplinary in nature and you don’t have to be studying Scott’s poetry or novels to meet your learning objectives at Abbotsford!
School groups can access the historic house, formal gardens and the wider estate during a visit, using our dedicated Learning Centre as a base. We also work closely with schools on bespoke projects and can tailor any of the sessions in this programme to your needs – please just contact our friendly Learning team to discuss your ideas.
