Welcome to The Abbotsford Trust Review 2025

In this issue we hear from our CEO Giles Ingram about the challenges that Abbotsford, like many historic sites have faced over the last 12 months and recent years. The Abbotsford Trust’s income from visitors has not recovered after the pandemic and is now impacted by the cost of living crisis. At the same time, unprecedented inflation has driven up running costs and recent government policy changes have increased employment costs. Despite our best efforts, Abbotsford is likely to have made a loss in 2024, and we must draw on reserves to cover the shortfall. With that challenge in mind, we have restructured to cut costs and are working hard to raise additional funds while carrying out the important work of caring for and sharing Walter Scott’s legacy.
