SCOTT'S FAMILY TODAY
Although at one time reduced to just one individual, Mary Monica Hope-Scott, Sir Walter Scott now has many direct descendants in the UK, Australia and Canada.
Along with Dame Jean's executors, the family agreed that Walter Scott's literary legacy as well as his house would be best preserved through the creation of the charitable trust which runs Abbotsford today. Matthew Maxwell Scott, one of Sir Walter's great-great-great-great-grandchildren, serves as a trustee.
Charlotte and John Hope Scott
On the death of Scott’s son Walter in 1847, Abbotsford passed to Scott’s granddaughter, Charlotte.
