Finance & Administration Manager

Bring your experience of managing finances to Abbotsford, helping us achieve an ambitious vision for the future.

Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott in the Scottish Borders, is one of Scotland’s most important heritage sites. Now cared for by an independent charity, we wish to appoint a finance manager to work with us. If you want to work somewhere where a job is not just a ‘job’, where you can be part of a team with a passion for sharing Scotland’s cultural heritage and making a real difference to local lives, this is it.

In 2014 the Abbotsford Trust completed a £12 million restoration, followed in 2018 by extensive estate improvements, ongoing funded community development activity, and £3 million raised so far towards an Endowment Fund.

The Trust is now pursuing a 10 Year Plan – an ambitious vision for Abbotsford through to 2029 encompassing the 250th anniversary of Scott’s birth in 2021. Realising the plan depends on successful fundraising, increasing paid admissions (The Abbotsford Trust), and the continued development of trading performance; retail, catering, and accommodation (subsidiary Abbotsford Trading Co.).

In this interesting and varied role you will be essential to the success of our charity. The Finance & Administration Manager plays a lead role in ensuring all financial and accounting procedures are robust and comply with best charity and fundraising practice. They are the lead within the Trust on the management and implementation of finance IT systems and are responsible for HR Administration. As a small team run by staff and unpaid volunteers, you should be personable and flexible in your approach to others, and be prepared to be bitten by our passion for Scott and Abbotsford.
