5th May 2017
Presented by Brigitte Harris (President of the Scottish Federation of Organists and the Borders’ Guild of Organists) with musical illustrations performed the Edinburgh-based a cappella vocal ensemble Cantica Alba, the talk will explore how Mendelssohn in his travels to Scotland helped to foster a romantic vision of European culture.
Mendelssohn’s travels as a young man in Scotland are the subject of contemporary writings, including his own letters, and as a composer he came to be at the heart of the Romantic movement whose ideals were so much part of Sir Walter Scott’s novels and his life at Abbotsford.
The vocal ensemble will sing Romantic repertoire, including partsongs by Felix Mendelssohn and his contemporaries to illuminate this talk on the Romantic spirit.
The concert will begin at 5.15pm, with doors opening at 5pm.
Adults £10 / Friends of Abbotsford £9
